What’s Special About Mad Sakharam Natak?
In order to know more about what Mad Sakharam Natak is all about, we need to go back in time. Mad Sakharam was originally known as Bhagwan Shree Sakharam Binder, which was written by P.L. Deshpande in 1974.

Furthermore, in 1972, Vijay Tendulkar directed the Sakharam Binder Natak. However, this play encountered significant legal challenges, prompting P.L. Deshpande to respond with Bhagwan Shree Sakharam Binder in 1974. Despite its creation over four decades ago, this play has remained dormant, unperformed and untouched by any production until the present day.
P.L. Deshpande’s motivation behind writing the Natak in 1974 was to gauge the audience’s awareness and curiosity regarding two pivotal concepts – Our Culture and The Guardians of Our Culture.
Thus, Mangesh Satpute has revived the play under the title Mad Sakharam. Sunil Jadhav takes on the central role of Sakharam Binder, bringing the character back to life. In addition to this, the Natak unfolds with a delightful blend of humour, featuring cleverly written dialogues and laced with moments of silent comedy.
This one-hour short comedy Natak is surely a narrative in a light-hearted family setting, making it relatable and entertaining for all. Moreover, this Natak adds an extra layer of humour and satire to the already funny & clever narrative.
Most importantly, the laughter that this Natak brings is not just for amusement; it’s a mirror that reflects the quirks and complexities of the human condition.
And finally, to watch the Madness of Sakharam along with his co-actors Lakshmi and Champs is definitely a watch in one of their next shows.
