Thet Tumchya Gharatun – I have been watching Marathi Nataks since 2013. It has always been one of my relaxing ways to enjoy a weekend. From 2013, till today, I would have watched more than hundreds and hundreds of Nataks. And the one thing that I could witness straight up is the growth of the Marathi Natak Industry. 

Today, we have such beautifully written and created Marathi Nataks, that just prove to be a testament to the Marathi Theatre and its journey towards reaching new heights.

One such Natak, which I recently watched, is Thet Tumchya Gharatun. 

This Marathi Natak is a roller coaster of emotions, a blockbuster of comedy, and filled with suspense. Personally speaking, I haven’t seen a Natak like this with such a unique and full-on comedy storyline in recent times. Its team is full of our Maharashtrachi Hasya Jatra’s favourite comedy stars Prasad Khandekar, Namrata Sambherao, Onkar Raut, Bhakti Desai, Prathamesh Shivalkar, and Shivali Parab. Without any doubt, this Marathi Natak is an outstanding work of art.

I got a chance to cover this Natak in their third opening show at Probhodhankar Thakrey Natyagruha, Borivali. For me, expressing just how beautiful it was to watch this Natak is quite challenging to put into words, even through this blog. Additionally, Thet Tumchya Gharatun is such an amazing comedy Marathi Natak that I’ll do my best to give you a complete perspective on what makes it so special and truly worth watching.

Thet Tumchya Gharatun Natak brings several fresh and unique elements to the Marathi stage, therefore, making it a must-watch. And that’s why, to make the blog more interesting, here are four reasons why this Marathi Natak deserves a five-star rating and is absolutely worth watching.

1. Very Powerful, Engaging, & Entertaining Story Line

Thet Tumchya Gharatun, written & directed by Prasad Mahadev Khandekar is a gem of Marathi Nataks. A gem, so well written and timed, that from start to end, you are on the edges of your seats laughing. It is a full-on 3-hour experience. An experience filled with rollercoasters of emotions, comedy, drama, suspense and twists. I can easily say that it is no short of a movie experience. 

It has a very powerful, engaging and entertaining storyline. The story of Thet Tumchya Gharatun revolves around the Kadam family – the dad (played by Prasad Khandekar), the mom (played by Namrata Sambherao), and their two GenZ kids (played by Onkar Raut & Shivali Parab). 

The entire family is busy in their own life. The kids, now in their 20s and mid-20s, are completely busy with their social lives and glued to social media, to the point where little else seems to matter. The elder son, even at 25, is still not earning, leaving his father deeply concerned about his future and his lack of direction in life. 

The father, meanwhile, is caught up with his job, the daughter is preoccupied with her online presence, and the son is trying to figure out a career path, possibly in acting. Amidst all this, the mother is left alone at home with no one to talk to. All she wants is a bit of her family’s time and attention, but unfortunately, everyone seems too busy to notice her.

One day, their son receives an exciting offer to participate in a reality show called “Thet Tumchya Gharatun”. This opportunity could potentially solve all the family’s financial troubles. Thus, kind of introducing the plot of this Natak to us – A Reality show within the Natak. This reality show, which takes place within the Marathi Natak, is the core of the story, filled with unexpected twists, humour, and suspense. To find out what unfolds during this Reality Show, you must watch one of their upcoming performances! Because, this is something that can be best experienced in their shows.

Personally speaking, I thoroughly enjoyed watching this Marathi Natak. It’s been quite some time since I’ve experienced such a brilliantly timed and expertly directed Natak.

2. Our Favourite Comedy Actors From Maharashtrachi Hasya Jatra Live On Stage

Apart from the storyline being one of the major aspects of Thet Tumchya Gharatun Natak, one of the very intriguing and standout aspects of this Natak is its powerful and talented cast. These actors, already beloved for their comedic brilliance, and having a huge fan following through Maharashtra’s famous comedy show, Maharashtrachi Hasya Jatra, they bring the same charm and energy to the stage.

When I watched the Natak at Prabodhankar Thackeray Natyagruha in Borivali, it was clear that much of the audience had come specifically for these gifted performers, drawn by their immense popularity and fan moments. Trust me, their perfect comic timing and dynamic stage presence that you see and admire on TV are just as electrifying and the same as well in this Natak.

Each cast member—Namrata, Prasad, Bhakti, Shivali, Onkar, and Prathamesh—fits their role perfectly and delivers an outstanding performance. Among them, Namrata, Shivali, Prasad, and Onkar truly shine. 

Namrata, in particular, is a complete show-stopper and star. Her acting is top-notch, and she brings her unique comedy intensity to the second half of the Natak, leaving the audience in awe. There is a dance sequence of hers in the second half, I am sure, after watching it, you would all shout for “Once More”. Without giving too much away, I can confidently say, that, she just steals the entire show with her impeccable performance and will keep you hooked until the very end. 

You’ll see what I mean when you watch it! She just rocks.

3. A Lavish Set By Sandesh Bendre

Thet Tumchya Gharatun not only features a talented cast but also showcases an impressively lavish and grand set. Designed by Sandesh Bendre, the set is truly remarkable and the way it has been presented is amazing.

In addition to this, while the story carries its own suspense element, the set also has a very intriguing and suspenseful element that you can only fully appreciate and know when watching it live. Every detail has been crafted to perfection, kudos to Sandesh Bendre for the same. Now, I won’t be able to share much about the set as it also has a unique element of its own that can be best experienced live itself.

4. Thet Tumchya Gharatun Is No Short Of A Movie Experience

Thet Tumchya Gharatun has everything you could ask for in a Marathi Natak—or even a movie. From an engaging storyline and a stunning climax to beautiful songs, energetic dances, a lavish set, suspense, comedy, heartfelt emotions, and a talented cast, this Marathi Natak ticks all the right boxes.

For the entire three-hour runtime, I am pretty sure, you’ll find yourself completely immersed in the experience, barely noticing how time flies. This Natak is a perfect blend of entertainment and relaxation. There were moments when I was laughing non-stop, one scene after another, without even a moment to pause. Truly, it’s a wholesome package that will leave you thoroughly entertained.

Last but not the least the story of this Marathi Natak revolves around how modern families are drifting apart due to the excessive use of electronic gadgets. It beautifully highlights how people today are so engrossed in the virtual world that they are unknowingly distancing themselves from their loved ones. All this has been shown in a pretty good and comedic way through this Natak.
