This Marathi Natak delves into the deep aspects of what goes on in people’s minds, their bodies, and the underlying changes that occur within themselves.
Recently, I also got a chance to watch Chinna Marathi Natak, and here is my personal review blog of this powerful Natak (play).

Chinna Marathi Natak, written by Vaman Tawde and directed by Abhay Pair is a debut of the old staged & hit Chinna Natak back from the 1980s.

Chinna Natak revolves around a family of four, consisting of a middle-aged couple and their son and daughter. The head of the household, Appa, portrayed by Abhay Janardhan Pair, has developed a habit of regular drinking, which has led to financial challenges for the family. As a significant portion of the father’s expenses goes into alcohol consumption, the mother, played by Pooja Nayak, strives to manage the remaining finances for their daily needs amidst this struggle.
Furthermore, Srikant, who, since childhood, kind of shares a brotherly bond with her daughter Shallu, becomes a part of the story. With a stable and decently paying job, he consistently sends financial support to the family, ensuring they can meet their basic needs. The mother attributes the stability and functioning of the household to Srikant, emphasising that he plays a crucial role in meeting their house’s financial requirements. At least, this is the narrative that she imparts to her son and daughter.
Moreover, the mother takes a step further by making Srikant and Shalu fall forcefully into certain awkward situations to make Shallu believe that Srikant harbours romantic feelings for her. Eventually, setting them up for a marriage plan which is strongly opposed by Appa. However, hidden beneath this seemingly innocent plan is the mother’s superior motive/objective.
She envisions that her family’s financial situation will improve once Srikant marries her daughter. Yet, her intentions go beyond this apparent arrangement and motive. She has more plans beyond just this marriage. This intricate plot, indeed, sets the stage for “Chinna Natak,” following which a series of intense twists, turns, and suspense happens.
But what unfolds next?
Do Shallu and Srikant get married?
What happens thereafter?
Does this summarise the entire plot of Chinna Natak? Is this all?
Well, not exactly. This narrative merely marks the beginning of their story, blended with numerous thrills, suspense, and unexpected turns as the plot unfolds. There is a lot that the Natak has to offer to its audience.
But, in order to know the true meaning of “Chinna” (छिन्न) and the suspense it holds, one must tune in to their upcoming shows.
Believe me, Chinna has a lot more in store for its audience. Especially, the second part of the interval is more engaging and intriguing.

Special Moments of छिन्न Natak –
First of all, kudos to the writer and director of Chinna Natak for their brilliant writing and imaginative & profound direction, respectively.
While the era of ‘Star Cast’ is still prevalent in today’s time, the performers in this play were not just actors; it seemed like they were living each moment on stage. The Natak felt so vibrant that it looked as if I was witnessing the events unfold in real time.
Most importantly, it’s remarkable how this play, despite addressing intense themes, manages to maintain its theatrical essence. The dedication and effort put in by all the artists, particularly Kanchan Prakash and Pooja Nayak, have translated into excellent results.
Furthermore, the set design of Chinna Natak beautifully captures the aesthetics of the 1970s, showcasing exquisite details in the set decor, furniture, and costumes.
In conclusion, this Natak is one such watch for its bold exploration of human desires, societal norms, and the delicate balance between them. It might leave a lasting impact on you.
As the curtain falls, brace yourself for a moment of astonishment, hushed silence, and numbness, witnessing the final scene of this Natak.
