If you’re wondering, “Do Indian citizens need a visa for Taiwan?” the answer is yes. Taiwan requires Indian passport holders to obtain a visa before entering the country. But the good news is that Taiwan offers a free Taiwan E Visa facility, making this process more straightforward, quick, and convenient.
That’s why travelling to Taiwan from India has now started to become increasingly popular, especially when you can now visit Taiwan visa-free if you hold any of the following valid or expired visas from any Schengen & EU country, USA, UK, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, Japan, or South Korea.
You just need to apply online for a Taiwan ROC Travel Authorisation Certificate which is issued to you almost immediately after you complete the application form.

Taiwan E Visa Process For Indians
The first step in the process is to apply for the Taiwan Online Travel Authorisation Certificate.

Kindly beware of fraudulent websites claiming to offer you visa services.

The online application form is user-friendly and can be completed in English from the comfort of your home. Make sure to provide accurate information and double-check all details before submission.
Documents Required For Taiwan E Visa
The application form will ask you to enter the following details –
- Your name as per passport
- Date of birth
- Passport Details
- Your intended date of arrival in Taiwan and its corresponding flight details
- Details of your stay along with its contact details
- Purpose of your visit
- Details of valid or expired visas from any Schengen & EU country, US, UK, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, Japan, or South Korea from the past 10 years
- Your employment status and a few details about the same
Once all the details are filled you can expect to receive your Taiwan Electronic Travel Authorisation Certificate in a few working hours.
In my case, I received the ETA almost immediately.
Taiwan E Visa Eligibility for Indians
It is very important to note that an individual is eligible to apply for the Taiwan E Visa or for the Taiwan Online Travel Authorisation only if he/she/they meet the following requirements –
In addition to the previously mentioned requirements, you must also possess confirmed return or onward flight tickets, proof of a confirmed hotel booking or accommodation for your entire stay, and adequate funds to support your travel expenses.
In case, you don’t meet the criteria mentioned above, unfortunately, you are not eligible to apply for the Online Taiwan ROC Travel Authorization Certificate. In this scenario, you’ll need to physically visit and apply for a Taiwan Sticker visa from the Taipei Economic and Cultural Center in Delhi, India.
Is Taiwan E-Visa Free for Indians?
Yes, the Taiwan ROC E-Visa is entirely free of charge. The process is straightforward and efficient; if you meet all the criteria, you can expect your E-Visa to be generated almost instantly.
Taiwan E-Visa Validity For Indians
Please note that the validity of your E-Visa begins from the day of your online visa application and lasts for three months. Upon issuance, it becomes a multiple-entry visa, permitting you to stay for up to 14 days from the date of your initial entry into Taiwan.
Things To Keep In Mind While Travelling With Taiwan ROC Travel Authorisation Certificate
Since the Taiwan E Visa is available only to people who hold valid or expired visas or resident permits from any Schengen & EU country, USA, UK, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, Japan, or South Korea, there are a few things that you need to keep in mind while travelling.
- Make sure to carry the same passport in which your supporting visa doc is, as your supporting visa doc will be checked and thoroughly verified at the Passport Control in Taiwan to check its authenticity
- Do carry a physical colour hard copy of the Online ETA (A few of the passengers were denied since they did not have a colour printout of their Online ETA)
- Please fill in an (online) Arrival Card for immigration inspection each time before reentry within the validity of this certificate at – https://acard.immigration.gov.tw/nia_acard (I wasn’t asked about this, but it is better to fill it up to be on the safer side)

By preparing your documents & details in advance and applying online, you’ll be well on your way to exploring the beauty and culture of Taiwan.
