Kon Mhanta Takka Dila Natak – Marathi Play Review!

Kon Mhanta Takka Dila is a bold & satire-based new Marathi Natak. This is a fantasy-based Marathi Play that aims to shed light on the reservation system we had before independence and how the issues faced due to discrimination on the basis of caste, and religion are still relevant in today’s time.

Recently we were invited to cover Kon Mhanta Takka Dila at Yashwant Natyagruha in Mumbai and we were just amused by the way the Natak unfolds. Kudos to the writers and directors of the Natak for presenting the Natak in such a bold way. As the issue of discrimination on the basis of caste, religion is still out there.

Therefore, here is my personal review blog of what Kon Mhanta Takka Dilla has to offer.

Moments That Make Kon Mhanta Takka Dilla Natak Special –

Kon Mhanta Takka Dila Story

First and foremost, imagine a world where the Government suddenly decides to cancel all the reservations and privileges available under the caste system, believing they all have fulfilled their purpose. In addition to this, imagine further that they make every upper caste household family mandatory to adopt a person from a backward caste as a means to achieve national integration and to maintain equality.

Then, in such a case, how would an upper-caste family react to this change?

What chaos and complexities would arise due to this mandate which the Govt. has ruled out?

Indeed, this is the intriguing premise and the plot of the Marathi play Kon Mhanta Takka Dila, written stunningly by Sanjay Pawar. This Natak was originally first played and launched in the 1990s. During that time it had done more than 150+ shows. Even today, when the Natak is launched with a certain new set of actors, it still remains relevant, reflecting certain unchanged times even after 75 years of independence.

Furthermore, talking about the story of this Natak, as the curtain opens, we see an upper-caste family reacting to the government order requiring them to adopt a lower-caste person. In exchange, the government would ease certain rules and regulations for such families. Consequently, the family then decides to adopt a Dalit (played by Aniket Vishwasrao) for the rest of their lives.

Now what happens after the Dalit arrives at their house and what scenes and events unfold is something you need to watch in one of their upcoming shows of Kon Mhanta Takka Dila.

Moving ahead, there are a few moments in / scenes in the Natak that truly justify how much hard work, practice, and thought has been put up in the making. Kudos to Aniket Vishwasrao, some of his scenes with Rahul Pethe are really impactful and deep.

The entire team of artists – Priya Marathe, Subodh Pande, Rahul Pethe and Sanyogita Bhave have done a really great job. Indeed, it’s teamwork to bring out exactly what the writers and directors want to portray through them.

In addition to this, Pallavi Wagh Kelkar’s character as the neighbour is simply amazing. The way her character has come out and its humorous approach add a delightful layer of comedy and entertainment to the overall play (Natak). It’s nice to see her scenes.

A Satirical Marathi Play Showcasing The Societal Reflections

Kon Mhanta Takka Dila

Kon Mhanta Takka Dilla is produced by Navneet Productions and Subodh Pande Productions, directed by Subodh Pande and written by Sanjay Pawar.

Secondly, this Natak is more than just a normal play. The writers have clearly put a lot of thought and effort into creating the dialogues of this Natak. As it can surely be seen on stage as well.

Undoubtedly, it is really a play that showcases the still ongoing societal reflections on caste discrimination. Moreover, it’s a mirror reflecting the societal and political intricacies of modern India.

It challenges the audience to think critically about the effectiveness of reservations and the underlying caste issues that persist despite decades of supposed progress. With its humorous and satirical approach, Kon Mhanta Takka Dila successfully engages and entertains while provoking thought and discussion. This is surely a must-watch, so do try to catch their upcoming shows.
