Day 1 – Lake Pichola

Lake Pichola is one of the most popular lakes in Udaipur. To spend an evening at Lake Pichola is a recommendation owing to the beautiful lights of the Taj Lake Palace and splendid views of Jagmandir at sunset.

A summer palace turned into a hotel, the Taj Lake Palace is a true taste of luxury, making it the third most expensive hotel in India. Boating at Lake Pichola is a sought-after experience opening at 9 in the morning and continuing till 6 in the evening.

It is also the only mode of conveyance to reach Jag Mandir or the Taj Lake Palace. The Jag Mandir at Lake Pichola is known to be a recreational palace of the Mewar Royal Family and is accessible to the public through the City Palace.

Day 1 – City Palace

Indeed the most exciting part of visiting Rajasthan is the tour of the majestic palaces and forts situated in its many cities. City Palace, Udaipur, built over a period of 400 years, is an important historical landmark of the city.

Maharana Udai Singh built the Palace, and his consecutive successors spanning numerous generations before the Government of India took it over to form the City Palace Museum. Surrounded by sprawling lawns, the view of Udaipur from the windows of The Palace is breathtaking, to say the least.

The museum boasts swords and armour suits belonging to the Maharanas of Mewar, including the ones worn by the great Maharana Pratap. The ceilings and windows adorned with handpainted murals and stained glass paintings add to the aesthetics of the Palace.

One tip to reach the City Palace is to ditch one’s own vehicle and take an autorickshaw to the gates of the Palace. This would save a ton of time that one would otherwise lose on looking for parking spaces in a very congested locality. Another tip is to hire a Tour Guide at the Palace. This would enhance the quality of your visit, making the entire experience more interesting.

Day 1 – Lakeview Lunch

While in the City of Lakes, lunch by the banks of a lake is an absolutely essential experience. One may find a long list of cafes and restaurants overlooking the water views. However, my recommendation, which was further a recommendation from our tour guide at the City Palace, is Raaj Bagh restaurant.

The restaurant is on the banks of Fateh Sagar Lake, bringing the perfect amalgamation of pleasing the palate while feasting the eyes.

Day 2 – Fateh Sagar Lake

While Lake Pichola is a destination which exudes a sense of calm, Fateh Sagar Lake, on the other hand, is the hotspot for tourist activity bursting with energy. With fun activities ranging from cycling along the path of the lake to jet skiing in the waters, there is hardly any chance of getting bored at Fateh Sagar Lake.

A perfect place to go for a drive at the end of the day, the lakeside is lined with street food vendors and small restaurants perfect for cheap thrills.

Day 2 – Eklingji Temple

Located 22 km north of the city, Eklingji Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, used to be a private temple of the royal family of Mewar. However, it has now been made open to the general public as well. As tempting as it may be, owing to the magnificent architecture, photography is strictly prohibited on the temple premises. 108 small temples dedicated to different gods form the entirety of the temple grounds.

In conclusion, Udaipur is a city that truly captures the essence of Rajasthan. With its rich history and culture, it provides the perfect weekend getaway for travellers looking to escape the hustle and bustle of city life. Whether you’re visiting with family or friends, Udaipur offers a diverse range of experiences to cater to all types of travellers.

From taking a boat ride on Lake Pichola to exploring the City Palace and admiring the stunning views from the Lakeview Lunch, Udaipur is sure to leave a lasting impression on all its visitors.
