Galib (गालिब) – Chinmany Mandlekar’s newly launched Marathi Natak has come onto the stage. Not just an accomplished actor but also a brilliant writer and director, he has once again managed to gather the limelight of the audience with his two-act masterpiece – Ghalib Marathi Natak.
Having witnessed their 20th show in Thane, I found myself utterly mesmerised by the unfolding of the play before my eyes. This, undoubtedly, is an experience that everyone should partake in. Hence, here are five reasons you can’t miss watching the new Marathi play, Ghalib.

Honestly speaking, the less I tell about this Marathi Natak, the more it becomes an authentic experience for you to watch and enjoy watching Galib.

However, I believe I can provide a brief storyline to give you a glimpse of what Galib has in store for you. Contrary to expectations, Galib doesn’t centre around the legendary Mirza Galib. Instead, it revolves around an author’s ambitious quest to write a novel about Ghaalib.
The story starts with Ila, played by Gautami Deshpande, sitting tiredly in her house, interacting with her dad – Prof. Manav Kirloskar, played by Gururaj Avdhani.
Prof. Manav Kirloskar has deep obsessions and a dream to complete writing a novel on Mirza Ghalib. This deep obsession eventually led the prof into a state of a “certified mad person”. This is something where his determination to achieve completion in the Galib novel leads others to perceive him as entirely consumed by madness.
After that, Virajas Kulkarni enters the scene as Angad Dehlavi. He used to be Prof. Manav’s student and is now a well-known writer. Angad visits Prof. Manav’s home looking for the novel ‘Ghalib,’ but he has no idea whether the book is finished or not!
With this as the central storyline of the play ‘Galib,’ numerous mysterious events unfold.

Above all, the narrative of Galib is intriguing with astonishing suspense – something beyond your anticipation. Believe me, as you engross yourself in the play, time slips away unnoticed, and you become completely immersed in its gripping storylines.
The suspense gives you those thrill chills, something that we rarely get to witness in today’s Marathi Nataks. From a personal perspective, I was astounded by the suspense this play unfolds – an experience that can only be truly witnessed and felt when seen live.
3. Brilliant Acting By Gautami Deshpande
Adding on, Gautami Deshpande delivers a stellar performance, showcasing her versatility in portraying various shades of her character. It’s a rare occurrence when a connection with a character becomes so strong that we start believing it’s all true and unfolding right in front of our eyes.
Moreover, this is precisely what I experienced personally, and I’m confident you’ll feel the same. Her depiction of the character Ila is executed wonderfully, drawing the audience into the authenticity of the narrative. Balancing cuteness and fierceness simultaneously adds a touch of humour and comedy to the Natak.
4. Beautiful Set
The set of Galib Natak is another thing that cannot go unnoticed at all. Every element on the stage, including the live water fountain, is exceptionally well done. It’s a testament to the Marathi theatre industry, showcasing the incredible heights that a Marathi theatre production can achieve.
The set beautifully blends ancient walls with modern elements, creating a perfect harmony between the old and the contemporary.

5. Excellent Writing: An Unmissable Experience
Lastly, I personally got goosebumps while listening to some of the dialogues from Galib Natak. Chinmay Mandlekar has truly excelled in crafting a brilliant play. His intricate writing, combined with skilful direction, will leave you wanting for more. The characters in the Natak are meticulously developed, leaving no loose ends. Some dialogues resonate very deeply and have profound meaning.
In conclusion, Galib is a complete package that seamlessly blends mystery, drama, and thrill. The entire team of Galib excel in execution, delivering a play that promises not to disappoint.
