Saujanyachi Aishi Taishi, the legendary comedy Marathi Natak is now back on the Marathi Stage after a long time.
Without any doubt, this legendary comedy Marathi Natak has been a household name for decades since its first show, and the thought of seeing it revived with a fresh cast felt like revisiting a timeless classic with a modern twist. Directed by Pradip Gogate, this Marathi Natak carries the tagline “तोच काळ, तीच चाळ”—a nostalgic promise of the same iconic “Chawl” life with a brand-new team.
Recently, we had a chance to cover their 3rd Opening Show at Atre Natya Mandir, Kalyan, and we truly enjoyed watching it. So here is my personal review blog, straight from the heart, of Saujanyachi Aishi Taishi Marathi Natak.

Saujanyachi Aishi Taishi Story – A Middle-Class “Chawl” Arguments with a Comedic Twist
First and foremost, the story of Saujanyachi Aishi Taishi Natak revolves around a middle-class family, the Berke Family, that is living in a “Chawl”, facing endless antics and frequent disturbances from their quirky neighbours who are determined to kick them out of their own house. The story and plot are indeed based on a “Farce”.
The set and the entire theme are set in a quintessential Mumbai chawl, in a way of how people live so close to each other that it becomes very easy to poke in your neighbour’s house. The middle-class Berke family living in that chawl becomes the centre of some hilarious scenes that take place in their house. Their neighbours, each with their quirks and agendas, are determined to someway other evict them from the chawl.
To give you a quick idea, the story begins with the Berke family getting their daughter Manda (played by Prachi Keluskar) ready. Her father has invited an uncle (played by Rohan Kadam) and his young nephew (played by Omkar Gawde) over to meet her and discuss a possible marriage proposal.
Of course, now since it’s a comedy Marathi play, things don’t go as planned during the marriage proposal meeting, leading to a series of hilarious situations. What starts as a simple gathering to discuss a few things quickly spirals into chaos and comedy, with comedic arguments. At one point, the arguments escalate so much that the tension reaches its peak, especially with the guests who come with the marriage proposal.
Seeing the mess and the behaviour of everyone involved, the head of the family, Mr. Nana Berke (played by Pradip Gogate), has a change of heart. He decides to leave his anger behind and makes a vow to practice “Saujanya”—politeness and calmness—no matter the situation or the person.
From that moment on, the entire Berke family commits to staying polite and composed – in “Saujanya”, no matter what challenges, absurd situations, or people come their way. This decision sets the stage for more laughs as they navigate life with their newfound mantra of Politeness – “Saujanya”.
So what do you think? Was the family able to keep their politeness (Saujanya) forever? Well, to know what happens next you need to watch their upcoming show of Saujanyachi Aishi Taishi Marathi Natak –

The Performances – A Cast That Delivers
Moving on, as mentioned earlier, the entire cast of this newly launched Saujanyachi Aishi Taishi is completely new. In fact, a few of the actors are even performing for the first time on a commercial stage. Now, this might make some people hesitant to watch the play, wondering if the newcomers can live up to expectations. But trust me, the way these fresh faces deliver their performances, you’d never guess it’s their first time on such a commercial platform.
Each actor brings their character to life with confidence and flair, making the entire experience feel seamless and professional. Special shoutouts for Sachin Navre, Mayank Sardeshmukh, Apeksha Ranade, Prachi Keluskar, Hemant Badekar, Ashwini Tendulkar, Yogesh Khambal, Rohan Kadam, Omkar Gawde, Neel Sonawane, Uma Shinde for their outstanding performances that truly stood out.
And, of course, a huge round of applause goes to the Director – Pradip Gogate and Associate Director – Yadnyesh Daund, the entire backstage team, like Set Design, Set, Lights, Music, Costume, Makeup, and especially Mr. Anudeep Jadhav for their support for bringing together such a talented group of artists and guiding them to create this through Utkarsh & Kallakars Productions.
Why You Should Watch It – The Powerful Theme Song
If you’re a fan of classic Marathi theatre with a touch of modern music, Saujanyachi Aishi Taishi has a treat in store for you—a powerful theme song that perfectly complements the Marathi Natak. Sung by the talented Nagesh Morvekar, known for his global hit Dolby Walya, this song is a must-hear while enjoying the Natak.
The song is beautifully written by Yadnyesh Daund & the music is given by Mandar Patil which captures the entire summary of Natak in just one single song. The full run of this song is almost towards the end of the Natak and it’s just a bang to see.
Finally, Saujanyachi Aishi Taishi is an experience that reminds us of the joy in simplicity and the humour in our everyday lives. Something you may relate to. Whether you’ve watched the original or are seeing it for the first time, this revival will leave you smiling long after the curtains fall.
